A tax bill passed by Congress would make it easier for investors to convert their assets into dollars.
If the bill becomes law, investors could theoretically earn a dividend on their holdings of US Treasurys and the like by purchasing the dollars from an exchange.
A dividend on those dollars could then be exchanged for the dollar of a particular stock or currency.
The bill would also allow the Treasury Department to issue a series of bonds that could be converted into dollars when the bills are sold at auction.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has previously said the bills could be used to fund government spending and “buy more time” with the government.
